A hypnotherapy session
HYPNOTHERAPY IN CHELTENHAM WITH SARAH WEAVER THERAPIES
What is Hypnosis?Hypnosis is a totally natural and relaxing state of inner absorption and focussed concentration. Believe it or not we actually get into this state by ourselves without realising. Think of a time when you have been engrossed in a really good book or the television, when you are ‘in the zone’ exercising or even when you are driving the car and in ‘autopilot’; it is as if you are in a mild trance and unaware of time passing by. It is nothing mystical or magical! During hypnotherapy Sarah will be helping you get into that state. It is extremely relaxing, you will be fully in control at all times and the Cheltenham-based clinic offers a very peaceful setting.
There is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling; you will simply experience intense relaxation and focussed concentration.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the use of therapeutic techniques when in the relaxed and focussed state of hypnosis. With the Weight Loss and Stop Smoking programmes, Sarah uses Suggestion Therapy (sometimes referred to as ‘Clinical Hypnotherapy’). This means that you will be given very positive suggestions and affirmations which will have an amazing effect on your behaviour and feelings once you are out of the hypnotic state. Sarah integrates this with other psychological techniques with amazing results.
Am I in control and will I remember what goes on in the session?
There are many misconceptions about hypnosis which have stemmed from television shows and ‘stage hypnosis’, where hypnosis and suggestions are being used on specific personality types, for entertainment value. This has given the impression that hypnosis is about manipulation and mind control, but in reality it couldn’t be further from the truth!
A helpful way to look at it is that there is absolutely nothing that Sarah will do ‘to’ you, but rather it is what ‘you’ do with her guidance and expertise. You will be gently and effectively guided into a very relaxed state at your own pace. You are totally aware of everything that happens, you cannot be made to do or say anything and you can open your eyes at any point.
What if I can’t be hypnotised?
This is a natural reaction, however the truth is that most people can be hypnotised. Providing that you are not under the direct influence of alcohol or drugs and have the mental capability to following simple instructions and to concentrating to a certain degree, you cannot fail-as long as you are willing!
There is absolutely nothing to worry about; a few initial nerves are completely normal and will not interfere with the process. Sarah will help you to quickly reach a comfortable state of calm, which will progress into deeper relaxation at your own pace.
